Uber to open new facility in Washington, DC
Uber will open a new facility to expand its operations in the Capital Beltway, the company announced Thursday.
The $100 million facility will provide a “unique opportunity” to bring jobs and services to the city, the San Francisco-based company said in a statement.
The new facility will include a $30 million manufacturing facility, an $80 million office space, and a $25 million research and development center.
Uber has been in Washington D.C. since 2013.
The announcement comes as Uber continues to grapple with the fallout from the deadly, multiple-vehicle accident that killed two passengers and injured more than 100 others last week.
Uber says it will hire 2,500 workers at the new facility.
The company said it is partnering with the Federal Trade Commission to “take the necessary actions to ensure the safety of consumers.”
The Federal Trade Commision said it will investigate the allegations, according to a release from Uber.
Uber has not commented on the allegations.
In a statement, Uber said the new facilities will create a “more robust presence” for the company in the city.
The Federal Labor Department has opened an investigation into the company’s hiring practices, according a statement from the agency.
